Mission

The Community Consulting Network works with organizations to increase their organizational capacity and resources so that they can negotiate the best possible opportunities for their constituents, both within and outside of their communities. CCN assists organizations to fulfill their missions through consultation, training, research and evaluation.


Consultant Biographies

Adriana Ballén, is the Founder and President of the Community Consulting Network. Ballén has more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, including in foundations, community-based organizations, capacity building institutions, and as an organizer. Her work has focused on organization development, community development, nonprofit management, and resource development. Ballén founded the Community Consulting Network in 1997. Previously, Ballén was a Program Officer at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, where she made grants in the areas of community development, organizational capacity building, and community organizing. Ballén served on the Board of Directors for the National Network of Grantmakers (NNG) for 4 years.  Ballén is active in a range of philanthropic and nonprofit endeavors in the U.S. and Latin America.

Cecilia Straney, Senior Consultant for the Community Consulting Network, has worked in resource development and fundraising for nonprofit organizations for 15 years. In that time, as a consultant or full time employee she has worked with boards and staff to raise more than $17.2 million in funding for 24 organizations in the U.S. and internationally. Her experience includes providing resource development training, technical assistance and consultation in fundraising plans, program planning, proposal writing, direct mail campaigns, major individual donations, capital campaigns, board development, membership development, and donor cultivation. For two years she wrote a quarterly column on resource development for emerging organizations for Clout, a quarterly business publication. She is a former newsletter editor for the National Society of Fundraising Executives, Chicago Chapter.

Mario F. García is an independent consultant with over ten years experience in organizational development and training. García has consulted and trained on subjects including board development, team-building, strategic planning, meeting management, and leadership. He has worked with a variety of organizations including community-based organizations, government agencies, social service agencies, professional associations, and local school councils. He is a member of the American Society for Training and Development, Chicago Industrial Organizational Psychologists, and the Academy of Management.
